Acupuncture is a system of healing which harmonises your body’s imbalances, working in a curative and preventative manner. It has been practised in China for thousands of years. Although often described as a means of pain relief, it is a highly effective treatment for a wide range of illnesses.
How does it work to restore health?
According to traditional Chinese philosophy, health depends upon the harmonious movement of our motivating energy or life force, known as Qi. Qi flows along pathways called meridians. When it is vigorous and free flowing, we are well. If the flow is depleted, sluggish or impeded, the body will alert us in the form of mental, emotional and physical symptoms.
By means of fine needles inserted at selected acupuncture points on the relevant meridian, the flow of Qi is smoothed and strengthened.
When balance and harmony are restored, symptoms begin to disappear. The task
of the acupuncturist is to determine and treat the root of the problem, so that
symptoms do not recur.
